Berry Fertility launches revamped app as egg freezing soars 39% year-on-year
San Francisco-based startup hopes to ease strain on fertility services with redesigned platform made by patients, for patients
Berry Fertility, a patient-founded fertility tech company, has launched an upgraded version of its app as demand for egg freezing and assisted reproductive care reaches new highs. The revamp comes amid a 39.2% year-on-year rise in egg freezing cycles, the largest numerical increase on record, according to the latest figures from the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART).
The updated platform, available across the US, Mexico, Canada and Australia, aims to make fertility care more accessible and less overwhelming at a time when assisted reproductive technology (ART) still fails to meet the needs of more than 70% of patients.
“Our team at Berry is made up of patients who have gone through fertility treatments themselves,” said Irene Alvarado, co-founder and CEO of Berry Fertility.
“We built Berry to be the tool we all wished we had — something that makes fertility care more accessible, less stressful, and a whole lot more human.”
Education, resources and medication tracking
Berry’s redesign offers new features, including step-by-step treatment guides for IUI, IVF, egg freezing, embryo transfers and timed intercourse. Users can track medications — including via camera-based scanning — and manage appointments, lab results, symptoms and milestones through a custom fertility calendar.
The app also includes a curated resource library, live chat support, and the ability to share treatment progress with friends or family, addressing the emotional and logistical complexities often involved in fertility journeys.
With more than 200,000 medication reminders delivered so far and a five-star rating in the App Store — far above the fertility app industry average of 2.4 stars — Berry is positioning itself as a patient-centric leader in the growing fertility tech space. A free version of the app is available, with a premium subscription priced at $9.99 per month or $72 annually.
Founded in 2022 by a team of former Google employees, Berry Fertility says it is working to bridge gaps in ART access by empowering patients with streamlined, user-friendly tools while reducing administrative burden on clinics.
Fertility treatments in the US have seen explosive growth in recent years. Egg freezing alone has more than doubled over the past five years, but the expansion of ART services has not kept pace. The spike in demand is attributed to a range of factors, from delayed childbearing to rising awareness and acceptance of fertility preservation.
As the pressure mounts on clinics and hopeful parents alike, Berry Fertility’s retooled app highlights the increasing role that digital health tools may play in shaping the future of reproductive care.
