Hormone monitor Clair Health has joined Mayo Clinic’s Platform_Accelerate in a multi-year collaboration designed to build the clinical evidence behind its women’s health wearable and AI models.
The company, which raised $11.6m earlier this year, will get up to two years of access to Mayo Clinic Platform’s data environment, including millions of de-identified clinical records, as well as advisors and technical support.
Clair plans to use that data to develop and validate models designed to identify patterns including cycle phases, ovulation and fertile windows, irregular and anovulatory cycles, hormone-related symptoms and the perimenopause transition.
It will also run a series of three-to-nine-month clinical studies to test how accurately its models identify hormone and symptom patterns across different populations and life stages.
The collaboration comes ahead of Clair shipping its first devices in December, with the company saying its waitlist has now passed 30,000.
Why the validation matters
Clair has attracted significant attention since emerging from stealth earlier this year, promising to bring continuous hormone monitoring to women through a wrist-worn device.
But its approach has also prompted debate.
Unlike technologies being developed to directly and continuously measure hormone concentrations in bodily fluids, Clair uses a combination of physiological signals collected by its wearable to infer hormonal changes and patterns.
That makes clinical validation particularly important. Clair says the Mayo Clinic Platform programme will help it test how accurately its models identify hormone and symptom patterns across different populations and life stages, including ovulation, irregular cycles and the perimenopause transition.
“Women often leave the doctor's office feeling dismissed, not because their symptoms aren't real, but because they don't have the data to prove it,” said Jenny Duan, CEO and co-founder of Clair Health.
“Clair is building the women's health platform we've always needed, one that translates continuous hormone and symptom data into insights women and their clinicians can trust.”
Dr Sara Vaughn, Chief Medical Officer at Clair Health, added that access to millions of longitudinal clinical records will allow the company to validate its AI across a wider range of real-world hormonal and symptom patterns, including irregular cycles, PCOS, endometriosis and the perimenopausal transition.
With continuous hormone monitoring emerging as one of the most closely watched areas of women’s health innovation, the work with Mayo Clinic Platform could provide important evidence for Clair’s approach ahead of its launch later this year.
