Danish start-up Lapee secures €800k for pink urinals for women
The start-up has also launched an equity crowdfunding campaign
Danish start-up Lapee has secured €800,000 in its largest investment round so far, supporting expansion of its pink urinals designed for women and gender non-conforming people.
The funding was led by Best Nights VC, the venture capital arm of alcohol brand Jägermeister, alongside existing and new business angels.
Founded in 2019, Lapee has driven growth through a presence at festivals, stadiums and public spaces across Europe. It says it has a 95% average satisfaction rate by users around the world and doubled sales and revenue from 2023 to 2024.
“This milestone is especially meaningful to us because Lapee is a women-run business majority-owned by women for women” wrote the Lapee team on LinkedIn.
“We’re breaking taboos by innovating in sanitation. We serve women’s needs with a hardware, low-tech solution. These are not the typical ingredients for a VC-backed company.”
More inclusive and sustainable events
Lapee’s design is six times faster to use than a standard portable toilet and is also waterless and recyclable.
With the new capital, Lapee plans to expand across Europe and scale into under-served environments. It has also launched an equity crowdfunding campaign.
“The future of nightlife is inclusive,” said a spokesperson for Best Nights VC. “The future of nightlife is sustainable. And with what Lapee is doing, that future is already feeling a lot closer.”
