FLO Living and partners launch study to put popular 'Cycle Syncing' method to the test
Research aims to provide scientific backing for the lifestyle-based hormonal health approach
A group of femtech companies have announced a new clinical study to evaluate the effectiveness of the popular Cycle Syncing® Method, a lifestyle and nutrition-based approach to managing hormonal fluctuations throughout the menstrual cycle.
The three-month study, led by hormone health company FLO Living and supported by digital health platforms Mira, Hello Inside, and Citruslabs, will track the impact of Cycle Syncing® on symptom burden and severity across the menstrual cycle. It marks the first formal effort to validate the method through clinical data.
Developed by FLO Living founder Alisa Vitti and first introduced in her 2020 book In the FLO, the Cycle Syncing® Method encourages women to align diet, exercise, and lifestyle choices with the four phases of their menstrual cycle. The method claims to help regulate hormones such as cortisol, progesterone and insulin by adjusting behaviours throughout the month.
“We're living in historic times for women's health,” Vitti said. “With the rise of femtech solutions, women have more control over their hormonal health than ever before. Our partnership with Mira, Hello Inside, and Citruslabs demonstrates how the femtech community can work together to push research forward.
“Most importantly, it lays the foundation for a new standard of care that integrates dietary and lifestyle interventions with pharmaceutical options—helping women receive more holistic, research-backed support.”
Understanding the menstrual cycle
The study will combine real-time data from participants using Hello Inside’s glucose tracking tools, Mira’s at-home hormone testing, and Citruslabs’ research platform. The goal is to understand how syncing lifestyle choices with the menstrual cycle may affect hormone patterns, glucose levels, and common symptoms such as cramps, mood swings and fatigue.
“Women's health remains one of the most underserved areas in scientific research, and the menstrual cycle is still largely misunderstood,” said Susanne Mitschke, Co-Founder & CEO of Citruslabs.
“This collaboration marks a historic step toward closing that gap. At Citruslabs, we're honored to be part of this initiative - validating Cycle Syncing® through robust clinical evidence and championing a new era of research that finally centers on women's lived experiences.”
The Cycle Syncing® Method has gained a wide following among wellness communities and social media influencers, but it has not been without its critics. Some medical professionals argue that the method oversimplifies hormonal processes and lacks sufficient peer-reviewed evidence to support its claims.
Still, the femtech firms backing the study believe it could shift perceptions if results prove promising.
“We are thrilled to be at the forefront of advancing women's health research alongside the brilliant teams at FLO Living and Mira Health,” said Mario Aichlseder, CEO & Founder of Hello Inside.
“By combining their expertise in menstrual health and fertility with Hello Inside's metabolic health insights, we are uncovering invaluable data on how women's bodies function at all life stages. This partnership is unlocking the powerful signals of the female body, giving women deeper insights into their health and empowering them to take control.”
Sylvia Kang, CEO & Founder of Mira, added:
“At Mira, we believe data is power - especially in women's health. This study is a critical step toward understanding how Cycle Syncing® affects hormone levels, symptom severity, and metabolic health. If successful, this research could provide doctors with a trusted, non-invasive way to help women manage PMS, cramps, and heavy bleeding - while also setting a new standard for gender-specific health research.”
The results of the study are due to be published later in 2025.
