Google partners with France's Institute of Women's Cancers to improve women's health outcomes
Using AI to improve patient outcomes in breast and gynaecological cancers
Google has announced that it will partner with France’s Institute of Women's Cancers to improve the prevention and treatment of breast and gynaecological cancers.
In a collaboration unveiled at the France AI Action Summit, Google said the initiative will make use of AI to enhance patient outcomes and increase our understanding of these complex diseases.
Predicting cancer progression and risks
Breast cancer remains a significant global health challenge, with nearly 60,000 cases diagnosed annually in France and over 2 million worldwide in 2022.
Gynaecological cancers, such as cervical cancer, also pose substantial health risks to women globally.
The partnership aims to make best use of AI to predict cancer progression and relapse risks, facilitating the development of more precise and effective treatments. Additionally, the collaboration will focus on identifying new biomarkers to determine which patients may benefit from specific therapies, particularly in cases where current treatments fall short.
Beyond research, the alliance emphasises the importance of disseminating accurate health information. YouTube will feature and promote Institut Curie's channel, offering reliable scientific content to combat misinformation, raise awareness about risk factors, and encourage increased screening and follow-up.
Google.org is also contributing over $2 million to Université PSL to accelerate applied AI scientific research, supporting postdoctoral researchers dedicated to improving breast cancer outcomes.
This partnership signifies a pivotal step in integrating technology with healthcare, aiming to transform the landscape of women's cancer treatment and prevention.
