HerMD acquired by Joi + Blokes, consolidating women's virtual care nationally in U.S
Brings closure to a turbulent year for virtual care platform HerMD
HerMD, the US women’s health organisation known for its focus on menopause, sexual health and evidence-based gynecologic care, has been acquired by Joi + Blokes, a national virtual clinic specialising in hormone optimisation, longevity and midlife health. The move brings HerMD’s clinical leadership and patient community into a larger virtual care infrastructure following a year of significant turbulence and transition for the company.
The acquisition comes after HerMD closed all of its physical clinics earlier this year, citing “ongoing challenges in healthcare.” As FutureFemHealth reported in April, the company notified patients via email that its brick-and-mortar sites would cease operations immediately.
Founded in 2015 by Dr Somi Javaid, HerMD built a strong national profile and raised an oversubscribed $18m Series A in 2023, bringing total funding to nearly $30m. Its clinics offered gynecology, sexual health, perimenopause and menopause care, weight management and medical aesthetics. The sudden clinic closures were followed by an announcement that HerMD would relaunch as a virtual-only service, with a telehealth platform planned for spring 2025.
At the time, HerMD emphasised its commitment to maintaining its model of extended visits, personalised treatment plans and evidence-based care. “Virtual Care allows us to keep moving forward—guided by the same purpose that has shaped HerMD from the beginning,” the organisation wrote in its public statement.
Under the acquisition, HerMD patients will transition into Joi + Blokes’ national virtual platform, gaining access to additional services including peptide therapy, testosterone, expanded diagnostic testing, and 30–60 minute appointments. Joi + Blokes will also introduce new sexual health treatments to its own offering. Patients across both organisations will have access to care in all 50 states, with opportunities to participate in research programmes.
“We’re proud to join Joi + Blokes,” said Komel Caruso, CEO of HerMD.
“From day one, our mission has been to raise the standard of care for women. Joi + Blokes’ national footprint and modern virtual-care model amplify that mission, expanding access to evidence-based, patient-centered care.”
Javaid said the acquisition ensures continuity of HerMD’s founding mission.
“When I launched HerMD, the mission was never just to deliver care—it was to change the way women are treated in medical settings,” she said. “Seeing that mission carried forward at the national scale is incredibly meaningful.”
Joi + Blokes currently reports more than 50,000 patients treated across all 50 states through one-to-one clinician visits and personalised hormone-health pathways. The company cites a recent self-reported survey in which 74% of patients noted sustained symptom improvements.
Katy Whalen, co-founder and COO of Joi + Blokes, said HerMD’s clinical approach strengthens the combined organisation.
“HerMD built one of the most trusted and clinically rigorous organisations in women’s health,” she said. “Their leadership in areas that have historically been underserved—including menopause and sexual health—aligns closely with our mission to provide more in-depth clinician visits and specialised care.”
As part of the integration, HerMD will lead a new educational initiative within Joi + Blokes, including a forthcoming “Joi x HerMD” educational series aimed at improving patient understanding across menopause, sexual health and hormonal care.
Delphine O’Rourke, CEO of Dotted and HerMD’s exclusive strategic advisor on the transaction, said the deal represents “a milestone in the rapid growth of the women’s health industry and a strong signal for M&A in 2026 across all healthcare.”
Further details on the integration timeline, pricing and the status of HerMD’s previously planned virtual relaunch have not yet been disclosed.
