Maven Clinic adds AI-enabled population health features to maternity product to help reduce preventable complications
Maven says it has the largest validated dataset in digital maternity care
Maven Clinic is rolling out new AI-driven population health capabilities in its maternity product, aiming to identify pregnancy risks earlier, reduce complications, and cut employer costs at a time when high-risk pregnancies and NICU admissions are becoming more common and more expensive.
The New York–based virtual clinic - used by more than 2,000 employers and health plans - said the enhancements are an expansion of its existing maternity model, which provides 24/7 clinical access, programs for conditions such as gestational diabetes and preeclampsia, and support from pregnancy through postpartum. Maven reports that families using its platform see up to 27% fewer NICU stays and 15% fewer C-sections, with an average employer saving of $9,600 per birth.
“Over the past decade, Maven has built one of the largest databases in the world on how to predict and mediate pregnancy risk,” said founder and CEO Kate Ryder.
“Now we’re using that knowledge to give every family the chance for a safe, supported pregnancy so no parent faces hardship from preventable complications.”
New AI and monitoring features
The new features apply AI to population-level trends across Maven’s dataset - what the company describes as the largest validated dataset in digital maternity care -enabling earlier detection of risks and more personalised intervention. The capabilities will begin rolling out in November, with further programs scheduled for early 2026.
A central component is tailored prenatal support informed by data from connected devices such as blood pressure cuffs and glucose monitors, combined with members’ electronic health records. Maven says the approach can help identify early warning signs of gestational diabetes or preeclampsia and aligns with the 2025 American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists guidance endorsing more personalised prenatal schedules that blend telemedicine with home monitoring.
Maven is also expanding its programs for high-risk conditions through continuous monitoring, timely education, and 24/7 clinical access. For those at risk of preeclampsia, the company says members can track blood pressure, receive support for medication adherence such as low-dose aspirin where appropriate, and follow clinically designed interventions aimed at preventing complications.
NICU support to shorten length of stay
Between 10% and 15% of newborns require NICU care, with an average admission cost of $77,000. Maven highlights data showing that nearly a quarter of NICU days occur after babies no longer need intensive care, pointing to parental support during discharge as a key gap.
Its new NICU program provides personalised discharge plans, round-the-clock access to clinical experts, milestone-based interventions, and ongoing support at home. Maven estimates the approach can reduce NICU length of stay by up to 8%, saving employers around $5,500 per admission.
“Pregnancy complications are not inevitable—they’re often predictable and preventable,” said Dr. Neel Shah, Maven’s chief medical officer. “By combining the power of AI with continuous, connected care, we can anticipate risks before they become emergencies.”
Data-driven maternity model
The expanded maternity product is powered by Maven’s Outcomes Engine, a data-driven model that incorporates learnings from every pregnancy on the platform to support more personalised and effective care. Members can connect with providers across more than 30 specialties, access classes, and receive support across fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, parenting, and midlife health.
Founded in 2014, Maven has raised more than $425 million from investors including General Catalyst, Sequoia, Dragoneer Investment Group, Oak HC/FT, StepStone Group, Icon Ventures, and Lux Capital. The company has been recognised by publications and rankings including the Time 100 Most Influential Companies, CNBC Disruptor 50, Fast Company Most Innovative Companies, and Fortune Best Places to Work.
