Progyny becomes first women’s health provider to join Amazon’s Health Benefits Connector program
Partnership aims to expand access to fertility, menopause and family care for millions
Women’s health and family-building benefits provider Progyny has announced that it has joined Amazon’s Health Benefits Connector program, becoming the first specialist in the field to take part in the tech giant’s latest healthcare venture.
The collaboration is set to make it easier for Amazon customers to access fertility, menopause, and other family-focused health services, provided their employer or health plan offers Progyny’s benefits.
“We're thrilled to welcome Progyny as the first comprehensive women's health provider to Amazon's Health Benefits Connector," said Aaron Martin, Amazon’s Vice President of Healthcare.
"This collaboration marks an important expansion of our program, enabling easier access to Progyny's full spectrum of women's health services. By simplifying how customers discover and connect with these essential benefits, we're taking another step toward our vision of making quality healthcare more accessible to all.”
Amazon launched its Health Benefits Connector as part of its wider effort to untangle the often opaque world of employer-provided healthcare. The move comes as nearly one in four American adults report confusion around the health benefits available to them, according to industry data.
With more than 530 employers and health plans using Progyny across the United States, the company supports over 6.7 million individuals. Its services cover the entire reproductive health journey, from fertility and preconception to menopause and parenting support.
Michael Sturmer, Progyny’s president, said the company’s decision to collaborate with Amazon was a strategic one.
“Amazon and Progyny have a proven track record of creating market leading solutions in their respective industries, so we knew they were the right collaborator to help make it even easier for our members to find and access their life-changing benefits,” he said.
“Access to high-quality, inclusive care should be easy, seamless, and the industry standard. This collaboration helps us simplify the path to care and bring that vision to more people.”
Amazon customers can now check their eligibility for Progyny benefits directly through the Health Benefits Connector, and—if covered—begin receiving personalised support and care with just a few clicks.
The partnership signals a growing focus by Amazon on integrating third-party healthcare providers into its digital platforms, part of a broader push by Big Tech into the healthcare sector. For Progyny, it represents another step in its bid to mainstream fertility and women’s health benefits as core components of employee healthcare.
Yet Progyny’s selection as the first onboard women’s health provider to Amazon’s program may come as a surprise to some, given the companies’ recent history. In September it was announced that Amazon was to drop Progyny from its own employee fertility benefits programme in favour of rival provider Maven Clinic. While that decision marked a shift in Amazon’s internal benefits strategy, the new collaboration suggests the company still sees value in offering Progyny’s services to a broader customer base through its growing healthcare marketplace.
