Saliva pregnancy test launches in Boots
Available since 2023 in other retailers, Boots becomes the first to sell under its own brand label
Abingdon Health has announced that Boots will become the latest retailer to sell its world-first saliva pregnancy test.
Although the test has been available under the ‘Salistick’ brand in Superdrug and Tesco since 2023, Boots will become the first to sell the test under its own brand label.
The UK pregnancy self-test market is expected to reach USD $56.7 million by 2033 and this partnership with Boots provides a strategic opportunity to launch, on an own-brand basis, an innovative product in this growing market with the UK’s leading health and beauty retailer. It also paves the way for further retail relationships for Abingdon as a Private Label Suppler (PLS).
The test is provided by Abingdon Health, Salignostics and Crest Medical partnership. It offers users convenience and an alternative to the usual urine pregnancy test. The saliva test has an accuracy starting from just one day after a missed period of 90% on day one of a missed period, 96% on day two and 97% on day three. In Salistick research, 68% of users said they would choose a saliva test over a urine test.
Chris Yates, CEO of Abingdon Health plc, said:
“We are delighted to announce the launch of the Boots branded saliva pregnancy test in conjunction with our partners Salignostics and Crest Medical. This launch showcases our ability to deliver innovative and disruptive private label products through our CDMO/CRO lateral flow full-service proposition with one of the most trusted UK brands – Boots.”
Guy Krief, Co-Founder and Deputy CEO of Salignostics Ltd, commented:
“We are delighted to partner on this exciting opportunity for our breakthrough technology that has brought the first ever saliva pregnancy test to market. Boots is the leading health and beauty retailer in the UK and offering our saliva pregnancy test under their own brand label will drive consumer education, confidence and adoption of the platform.”
This is not the first own-brand partnership to be launched with Boots. Abingdon announced in March 2024 the launch of two other Boots branded self-tests - iron and vitamin D deficiency.
Matthew Courtney, CEO of Crest Medical Ltd, commented:
“After the recent release of Vitamin D and Iron deficiency testing under the Boots family of products, the launch of the saliva pregnancy test is another terrific step forwards in expanding our portfolio and deepening our partnership with Abingdon Health.”
